REI sources local wind energy for six Texas stores, invites statewide members to choose affordable green energy for their homes

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, REI Co-op is inviting eligible Texas members and employees to buy affordable renewable energy for their homes. This option is made available by REI’s electricity purchase from a local windfarm to power six of its Texas stores in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Friendswood, Houston-Willowbrook, and Houston-Galleria. While REI has powered its stores with 100% renewable energy since 2013 through a mix of on-site solar, renewable utility products, and renewable energy credits (RECs), the Co-op is working to scale its sustainability impact by making green energy available to its members and employees.
“As an outdoor co-op, we believe protecting the outdoors is critical to the future of our business,” said Susan Long, REI sustainability initiative manager. “By inviting our local members and employees to join us in fighting for a life outdoors, we can have even more of an impact on the planet and the places we love to recreate.”
