As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, REI Co-op is inviting eligible Texas members and employees to buy affordable renewable energy for their homes. This option is made available by REI’s electricity purchase from a local windfarm to power six of its Texas stores in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Friendswood, Houston-Willowbrook, and Houston-Galleria. While REI has powered its stores with 100% renewable energy since 2013 through a mix of on-site solar, renewable utility products, and renewable energy credits (RECs), the Co-op is working to scale its sustainability impact by making green energy available to its members and employees.

“As an outdoor co-op, we believe protecting the outdoors is critical to the future of our business,” said Susan Long, REI sustainability initiative manager. “By inviting our local members and employees to join us in fighting for a life outdoors, we can have even more of an impact on the planet and the places we love to recreate.”

“This new program makes it simple for REI members and employees to express their passion for the outdoors by supporting local renewable energy,” said Eric Alam, CEO of RPD Energy. “People want to do the right thing. REI, RPD Energy and Lone Star have now made local green energy for the home easy and affordable.”

“Pulse Power is a Texas-based retail electricity provider focused on our customers, “ said Rob Cantrell, President of Pulse Power. “Our Lone Star Energy Texas brand is the perfect fit for delivering this unique opportunity created by REI. Local wind from an identifiable source that supports 100% renewable energy in Texas. What could be better?”
